Description

The Louvre Museum in Rome is divided into two adjoining but independent rooms.

At number 28 is the main space, where works of various kinds are kept and exhibited on the shelves, walls, drawers and in twelve showcases: books, but also paintings, other art objects and a series of rare and precious papers: postcards, ex libris, graphics, autographs, letters, notebooks and private archives of various origins, bearing witness to different aspects of the cultural history of the last century.

Among the permanent works in the Musée du Louvre, photographs play a leading role. At present, the gallery's collection includes around 30,000 images, almost all vintage prints, of various genres (from réportage to fashion, from stage photos to amateur snapshots): a fund capable of documenting Italian history of the 20th century in various ways.

The premises in Via della Reginella 26 are dedicated exclusively to photographic collections and temporary exhibitions. The peculiarity of this space is that it focuses on "permanent" access to this rich heritage of images, rather than on single exhibition events.

In addition to a selection of works displayed on the walls and in the showcases, the gallery offers the possibility of consulting directly the approximately 150 albums that preserve and present, in different thematic keys, the collection of original IMDL photographic prints.
