Description

The building was commissioned by Cardinal Girolamo Capodiferro (1502-1559) on pre-existing buildings owned by the family. The work was carried out, starting from the end of 1548, by the architect Bartolomeo Baronino (1551-1554) from Casale Monferrato. It was almost completely finished by the Jubilee of 1550, including the stucco decorations that embellish the façade and courtyard, and the pictorial cycles on the Piano Nobile.

In the following century, Palazzo Capodiferro passed into the hands of Cardinal Bernardino Spada (1594-1661), who purchased it in July 1632 from a Capodiferro heir for 3200 scudi. Upon purchase, Cardinal Bernardino began a series of works that lasted thirty years and gave the Palazzo a new and more enjoyable appearance.

On the first floor of the Palace, in a seventeenth-century wing, is the Gallery.
