The Wax Museum was created by Marcello Canini in 1953 after visiting Madame Tussuad’s Wax Museum in London and Grevin’s in Paris. The first exhibition consisting of personalities was exhibited to the public in 1958 in halls of the Thermae of Diocletian. In 1969-70 the Museum was set up in Palazzo Colonna in Piazza SS. Apostoli. Currently it is ranked as the third in Europe after the ones in London and Paris. Its many statues of famous personalities and reconstructions of historical scenes include Machiavelli, Mazzini, Lenin, De Gasperi, Churchill, Stalin, Roosevelt, Mao Tse Tung, Byron, Wagner, Charles Chaplin, Alberto Sordi, Nino Manfredi, the Pooh and Francesco Totti.
