Description
The International Typological Museum of the Crib was founded in 1967 by Angelo Stefanucci and cured by the Friends of the Crib Association. It is housed in the rooms beneath the church of SS. Quirico and Giulitta. It conserves crib settings and more than three thousand single figures, realized with different types of materials: paper, shells, soft breadpart, fabric, waxes, wood, terracotta, chalk, and glass. The objects come from many Italian regions and from many European, Latin-American, African, and Middle Eastern Countries and offer an overview of the different settings and interpretations of the Nativity in the different parts of the world. In order to keep the tradition of the crib alive under its different (religious, historical, and technical) aspects the Association also publishes the quarterly magazine “Il Presepio” (The Crib), the only one of its kind in Italy.
