Description

The Currency Museum was inaugurated at the Bank of Italy's Currency Service Department on 28 June 2001, a few months before the introduction of euro currency and the retirement of lire currency. The Currency Service produces various different denominations of euro currency using state-of-the-art equipment and techniques.

The Museum, whose realization was made possible thanks to the special efforts of Silvana Balbi de Caro and Gianni Fina, retraces more than one hundred years of Italian history through the exhibition of currency, sketches, examples of forgeries, printing material and equipment. It is therefore a space dedicated to the memory of industry, work, art, illustrious men, science, taste and, with it, the customs of the country.
