The Museum of Instruments for the Reproduction of Sound was founded in 1936 in consequence of the donation in the thirties of the Loreto company in Naples, one of the most important firms in the sound sector. It is located within Palazzo Mattei di Giove that houses the State Record Library. The showcases are arranged in three halls and contain valuable instruments, such as Edison’s phonograph, the first record gramophone, old tape recorders, and many accessories. The photographic and paper material that is dated from the end of the nineteenth century to our days is rich and interesting. It consists of letters, documents, scores, catalogs of record companies from all over the world, and vintage posters.
