Description
It is above all a museum of printed paper and period illustration from 1850 to 1950. It brings together posters, prints, drawings, watercolours, chromolithographs, illustrated plates, sheet music, illustrated books and magazines, advertising cards, postcards, decorated fans, toys as well as magic lanterns, records, gramophones and other objects dedicated to Parisian culture between the 19th and 20th centuries.
Periodically, themed exhibitions are organised on different cultural and artistic aspects of Paris: theatre and entertainment, cinema, classical music, dance, literature, fashion and costume, art and architecture. In addition to its iconographic collections, the Museum also has an antiquarian and modern library dedicated to 19th and 20th century Parisian culture and a collection of some 3,000 photographs dedicated to aspects and artists of French culture. It is also twinned with the Musée de Montmartre in Paris.
