Description
The Fontana della Carlotta, designed in the 1930s by architect Innocenzo Sabbatini, consists of a quadrangular concrete pillar, worked with diamond-pointed ashlars, on top of which is a large concrete jar.
The water gushes from the mouth of a female head framed by long hair, much deteriorated, and falls into an oval basin (in travertine?). According to tradition, it represents the "polite" hostess, named Carlotta, who welcomed visitors to this area of the countryside surrounding the town to which she eventually gave her name. Located at the foot of the characteristic flight of steps in Via Angelo Orsucci, which leads to Piazza Sapeto, it has been considered one of the symbols of the Garbatella district since the mid-1920s.
